New Kit Release: the Logging Camp Cook House Kit HO & O

Scale Model Masterpieces (former Thomas A Yorke Ent.)  #SMM3122 / #9122
In the Newsletter we sent out earlier in the week we forgot to mention that the HO and O scale Cook House Kits are now available as individual kits. We do still have the "price saving" Cook House/Bunk House Combo kits available for a limited time.
   HO Foot Print: 3-1/2" x 6-1/4" / O Foot Print: 5-1/2" x 10"
.  Not long ago we told you that we would make this kit once again available. It seems that many customers wanted to have just the Cook House for their Logging Camp. So we have bumped up the re-introduction of this kit. CLICK HERE for more about this amazing kit in both HO and O scales ...

PROGRESS! Shortline/Industrial Engine House Kit

 Scale Model Masterpieces HO/HOn3 (foot print: 9-3/8"lg x 6"wide)
So while you're out there scooping up all the Black Friday Deals, you can be assured that I am busily working on finishing this Pilot Model  At right is the "End View" of the Engine House Pilot Model and a "Lean-To" view has also been added to the website. If you've not been following us on Facebook for the past week , the instructions for this kit are just about done. And so will this Pilot Model as soon as I finish the Lean-To Shed, Power Vents, Sliding Doors and Lightning Rods and maybe a little weathering, too! We've added some more "in-progress" images to this kit description on the website just like the image at right. I have to say even thoughthis kit is quite a bit of work, it is still one of my all-time favorite early Yorke Enterprises kits. It has been since 2010 that we first introduced the Shortline/Industrial Engine Shed Kit in HO scale and, it is finally time that we brought back it's big brother. CLICK HERE for the rest of the story ...

Doctor Ben's How-To #4: Hot Glue Casting Technique booklet  image text

A number of years ago I was browsing through my old Gazette magazines and I picked up the January/February 1982 issue where I found an interesting article. In this long-out-of print magazine, I found an article about casting detail parts. In that article Terry Metcalfe described how he cast parts by melting beads of a thermoplastic called “Makit and Bakit” beads in RTV molds using an ordinary kitchen oven. I decided that this process was definitely NOT going to work for me. ...

It has been nearly 30 years since my "Hot Glue Casting" technique was published in the "Narrow Gauge & Short Line Gazette" magazine. Although this innovative process hasn't changed much over time, the availability and cost of Room Temperature Vulcanizing Silicone (RTV) as well as weathering and finishes has had some significant innovations. Now is as good a time as any to refresh this article with additional information and lots more color photos than was in the original publication.                                                             (16pgs color & B/W) Read More ...
