It is 1937 and the "Great Depression is in full bloom. One company after another is quickly going out of business. Hence, the fate of Schramm Manufacturing Co. For nearly 100 years, Schramm has provide hand made fine furniture to the northeastern United States. Now, like many other family-owned business, the Company cannot even pay the taxes on the property, let alone the hard working skilled labor. And so, life goes on and so does the deterioration of the Schramm property until the bank has to foreclose on the property.
But at this point, what is left of Schramm is hardly worth much more than kindling. The Federal government is damming up rivers for some sort of crazy scheme to provide 'electricity' and in doing some the river behind Schramm has dried up and other business have moved away. Folks say that the ol' Schramm building is now haunted because of all of the folks hurt by the hard times.
But now, it is 10 years later, and some young military brothers have bought the ol' Schramm building and are trying to make a go of it by planting all the cut-down forest areas with Apples. They call themselves the Indian River fruit Co. They'd be be better calling in the shrinks and saving us all the trouble of chasin' them down and catchin' them in nets to take them to the bogie house. Yep, a waste of time and money, shoot, the river's hardly a spit on the ground.
Stupid kids. They ain't even got no decent sign an' everybody knows a business with o sign is a sign of no business.
Here is you find the Front head-on view of the Indian River Fruit Co. Why, the roof looks like it's gonna fall through at any minute. A big ol' oak fell on the 'real' copper roofing and darn near went right into the cider room. They say one of the new owners was a sittin' on the inside toilet and darn near ruined hisself when the tree fell into the buildin'.
There he is hisself, fool kid. He's a got to be touched in the head if he's gonna pick apples in theme gonna go ta church threads. Ya know, i do believe that heeza carrin' a woman's purse. He ought to be up there on the ruff fixin' the spot where's the ol' oak felled down on it.
Here, we's looking at the right front of the building. Those darn electrik folks are go in aroun' stickin' those darn electrik poles everywhere. Ain't they a sight. Down right ugly if you was to ask me!
Here weze around the right backside of the Indian River fruit Co., the ways the river used to run. We had a darn nasty blight of them mealey bugs. Aite all the dern leavfes off of those beautiful trees along the dried up Indian River. My Ma seze the nearly dead trees look more like dried up Azelea roots stickin' streight up in the air. I believe she's right! There used to be a train siding back there by where the ol' loadin' docks now fallen down ... they had to remove the track cuze' the rive dern near took one of them train cars into it.
Now we'z in the back ... where the ol' MaKenzie Mill used to stand. Guess it was last year them Nagy folks from Flo-ri-duh was visitin' up this was and took a hankering to the run down ol' mill. Yep, heard tale that they hired a crew to tear the ol' mill down -- bored by bored. Yep, they dragged that big ol' truck of rotten wood all the way to Flo-ri-duh and put that ol'l mill back together, good as new. Now ain't that the dern strangest thin' ya ever did heared!
Can ya see where the ol' plannin' shed nearly fell into the Indian River. Them kids had ta stick some of the ol' ties from whered the track used to be to keep the shed from tumblin' down. Can'tch see, they might know sumptin 'bout apples, but they ain't no carpenters. I hear'd tales that they might me makin' sum real stong drinkin' cider in that there tank. Hear'd tale that them Harris boys down the road a piece come home drunk as skunks one night from a leak in that tank. Betcha they got a real wippin' too!
Now look, ya see. There on the left side of the Indian River Fruit Co., why there's Mr. Schramm's ol' pick-up. It weren't ate years ago, why that dern fool Chipper Humphry runned that ol' Mr. Schramm's pickup into the plannin' shed. Can ya see the missing post. I told ya that them new kids weren't no carpenters. Why they's dumm enough that they'll probably stack some of the ol' barrels layin' around to hol the roof up.
Now we's lookin' at the left front korner of the Indian River Fruit Co. Can'tcha see the lousey sign them there kids put up. Kinda looks like they made it with a paint brush. And there, look. See where'd the two hundred year ol' oak fell down on the shed. Dern good thin' ol' man Schramm put a good foundation under that buildin. We'z gonna mis that ol' beautiful tree. I kiss my first fella under that tree. Why he even carved our initials into that tree -- "Ben luvs Debbie".
O K. Now's we's lookin' real close up at the front of the Indian River Fruit Co. Now you can see for yer self how deelapidat'd the ol' buildin' is, don'tcha agree? I hear's that sum of the ol' barrels are 'real' special. Why, they's say that them barrels and drums and even the concrete pillars and most all the other parts around this here Indian River fruit Co. is made of some special moldin' process. Rediculas, somebody's been readin' one of the Scientify novels. Jus plain silly, if you wuz to ask me!
