Kiddos Headed Back to School?!

WOW! There's a lot of stuff going on for us as we try to catch up on orders & casting stuff. Most notably is the eBay transition to "required" Seller "Managed Payments" now that the 5-year "waiting" period of the sale of Paypal has ended. What's this mean for eBay Buyers? Probably not much other than some Seller product prices may increase to cover the additional MP Seller Fees that eBay charges Sellers to sell on the eBay platform. We've been a Seller almost twenty years and things have changed substantially during this time. Mean while, many model railroad sellers are throwing in the towl and moving on to other venues.
Down in this Newsletter you will find the posting for a pair of "Brian's Boxcar" model railroad store signs that lit up the darkened sky for a number of years in Largo, Florida. The signs went dark when Debbie closed her model railroad store in 1993 and we moved to Eastern Tennessee. We had planned on displaying them on the side of a barn one day. But it's been 27 years and it's about time to share these magnificent signs with someone who will love them as as much as we do.
Last year I mention the 6 & 12-week injections that I have been receiving in my right & left eyes for Macular Degeneration. Fortunately I continue to receive injections during this pandemic and both eyes are stable. Although my eyes are no where near where they need to be, this issue is a main consideration for selling our businesses. The treatments have not totally cleared up the MD in my eyes, but the Doctor is still very hopeful that the condition will remain stable until the FDA has approved stem cell trials (currently postponed until 2021) that have the potential to reverse the condition even more ... fingers crossed!

Lots of new Visitors like the look of our New Doctor Ben's Website!  We still need to do a lot more editing to Product Descriptions and that will come over time. But lots of visitors have complimented on the improved navigating and all the new visual improvements. And be sure to look for the "Questionnaire" at the bottom Checkout Payment page where you are able to Make Comments and tell us your modeling scales. This is very helpful for us to send a "scale specific" product material and sometimes OOPS! packets with you order!
There's been even more interests in our Business for For Sale especially since we shared this information in previous Newsletters. We've added now almost 90 images of the equipment, tooling, material and such that are included in the purchases. If I've missed anyone please give us a call at 770-666-8100 or email at [email protected] There is a Referral Fee Reward for you when/if you if tell someone you knows who purchases one or both businesses.
Thank you very much for your continued business. We hope to see you in the Hobby Room and Please wash your hands; wear a mask & Social Distance when possible. We've lost too many friends to this deadly disease.

Doctor Ben's Weathering Solution Spotlight: Realistic Rust #1150 Ready-To-Use
Weathering Solution for Wood, Plastic, Hydrocal
©, Metal & Much More-4oz Jar & 8oz, too!

When I first began building Fine Scale Miniatures kits  (manufactured by George Sellios) many years ago, the part that I enjoyed the most was the weathering. Nothing irked me more than to build a model in a brand new, pristine condition. I began looking for something more that what the FSM instructions offered. Don't get me wrong, I owe a great deal of what I learned about building models from building early Thomas A. Yorke kits, Model Masterpieces kits, Builders in Scale kits, Timberline kits; heck, there's even a thing or two to learn from building the Campbell kits.

In my quest for the ultimate weathering process I remember that I found a four-step, four bottle product back in the 1980s that stated it came from the guy's driveway and I tried this for a while. I then I tried the 'Steel wool & vinegar rust' process. This I really liked, but the thought of the rusting processing continuing even after the application scared me. I tried flushing with water, but this washed the finer Doctor Ben's 8-Color Solution Set #2particles away, and I still was not sure that the rusting process had been stopped. I even tried sealing the finish with a dull coat—too labor intensive. And then one day I literally fell over an idea as I was helping my brother install some custom cabinets on a commercial job site.

The long story short is that although my formula has changed over the years, AND, a lot of folks have tried real hard to copy my Doctor BeHow To #1 Bookletn's products, but they still haven't come close. Several even posed as 'friends' to get the formulas. Today, you can buy various weathering powders (NOTE: some are just ground artists chalk and/or tempra finger paint powders), and there are folks are offering stuff used to tint wet concrete (yes, really!), but nobody—nope nobody— has a weathering solution OR an industrial weathering pigment that will perform anything like the Doctor Ben's products do.

And for the record, these are the very same Weathering Stains & Solutions that I have demonstrated in the many Clinics and Model Shows and used to finish the plethora of Fine Scale Miniatures (FSM), Master Creations, Sequoia Models, Downtown Deco, Thomas Yorke, Scale Structures Ltd, Evergreen Hill Designs, Model Masterpieces Ltd, South River Model Works, and many other kits (including quite a bit of Athearn rolling stock) Doctor Ben's How To Booklet #1over the years that have been recognized as award winning, museum quality models.

Using this Doctor Ben's Product: Weathered Rust differs from Realistic Rust in that it is more like the rust that you would see on old farm equipment sitting out in the field—dampened by the morning dew slowly etching away at the metal surface. This product is a topical application that does not affect the surface integrity of the model. This product has built in adhesive polymers that enable it to stick to any surface. Get too much on and want to remove it? Not a problem, read on about all the great uses in our How To #1 booklet and in our website Blog.. You will not be disappointed.
