Here Comes the Winter Solstice!

We're getting some crazy weather just days before we make our Holiday trek to Maryland to celebrate Christmas with family. So far we may have decent, but rather cooler weather which is much better than other areas around the States! Our hopes and prayers go out to all the folks just devastated by the tornado this past week. Please help the 5-6 States affective by Donations of food, clothing, and any way that you are able to help. The seven counties surroundding Greater Atlanta are contributing the Convoy of Care truckloads of support. Check to see if your community is doing something that you might donate to in support/ Thank you!
All the mail and package carriers are saying that Friday is the last day to mail something across the United States. That sounds optimistic to me, but fingers crossed and it could happen! Also, this Friday is our last day that we will be able to mail website orders as well. It is a 12 to 14 hour drive to Maryland from Georgia and much of the driving falls on Debbie. My Macular Degeneration in both eyes plays games with my depth perception and focus so my driving times is very limited.
Once again, we suspect is all the hum surrounding our "For Sale" announcement, (SEE image above right). We wanted to be sure to welcome these new subscribers to our newsletter. And since all of our promotions are pretty much word of mouth, we hope that you will feel like sharing our newsletter with you friends & fellow modelers. You are our only advertising!
We'll see you in the Hobby Room & Please Wash Your Hands and wear a mast to protect your family & friends!

HO & O Scale Logging Camp Cook House & Portable Cabin Houses Kits

HO & O Scale 3-structure Limited Time Set has Ended!

But individual Kits are still available in HO & O Scale!
This Limited Run Kit ran much longer than expected! But, just like the HO version, this O scale kit is available separately as a Cook House Kit and separately as a Portable Camp House Kit. We have had tons of requests in both scales for just the Cook House or just the Portable Cabins. Hopefully, (or maybe the New Owner?) a Tool Shed and a Saw Sharpening Shed might be offered as well!

Originally we things just a little bit differently. The Cook & Portable Cabin Houses included windows in the rear walls instead of the original windowless rear walls. We will be going back to the plain rear walls in the portable units in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for more information to come soon.

PLUS! Kits include a ton of Details ...  continued here ... Is anyone thinking Merry Christmas?

Doctor Ben's Weathering ProductsDoctor Ben Ready-To Use Weathering Solutions
The Doctor Ben’s Weathering Solutions are the original products that I used to http://www.debenllc.com/How-To-1-Art-of-Turning-Toys-into-Models-Booklet-Doctor-Bens-Scale-Consortium-_p_11.htmldescribe in my NMRA & Train Show weathering clinics many years ago. Originally, I simply mixed the Industrial Weathering Pigments with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol and applied them with a brush, allowing gravity and capillary actions to do most of the work. This resulted in a more three dimensional affect than previous efforts.
Another technique of creating a Doctor Ben's Antique White Weathering Stainweathering solution involved using shoe dye and was penned by Wayne Wesolowski in his article "Dr. Weso’s Weathering Goop" (Railroad Model Craftsman, September 1977, pg 38).
Many other folks have come up with their own concoctions, including George Sellios, whose Fine Scale Miniatures instructions detail how to use an India ink and alcohol mixture. The FSM technique was an improvement over Wayne Wesolowski’s shoe dye technique for a couple of reasons. Continued Here ...

Doctor Ben's Rustic Barn Red Weathering Stain #1089
Original Doctor Ben's Barn Red Stain!

Using this Doctor Ben's Product: Ever since 1991 we have offered Doctor Ben's Aged Driftwood Weathering Stain as a non-petroleum, identical color match replacement for the long defunct Floquil Flo-Stains© products; especially Floquil Driftwood stain made famous by the Fine Scale Miniatures kit instructions of the 1970s to present.
Thousands of jars of Doctor Ben's Aged Driftwood Weathering Stain have been sold with equally thousands of satisfied customers. This product is designed to be applied as a stain and should not affect integrity of the material to which it is applied. A good rule of thumb that we feel best describes the coverage of the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains is that one coat will provide a light coverage; two-three coats will provide a medium coverage and four or more coats with build up, the more porous the surface, the more difficult it is to remove, so test a small less noticeable area before the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stain is applied to the entire model/project.  And Read about all the great uses in our How To #2 "The ABC's of Staining Castings & Models" booklet and in our website Blog (June 2015 Archives). "We Turn Toys into Models!"

How-To Technique: Palletized Products Posted by Richard E. (Ben) Bendever to Tips & Techniques

I will be the first to confess that this technique is NOT the construction of a complete pallet. This technique is to "create" the illusion that the detail/stack is resting on a pallet. For this How To Technique, I will use HO scale 2" x 4"s about 9/16" long for the risers which enable a forklift or pallet jack to get under the pallet to lift it and move it. Continued Here ...

The Grocery Scale Model Masterpieces formerly Thomas Yorke Ent.
"Traveling the back roads years ago, one would happen across a tiny grocery store around every other bend in the road or over the next rise. Even today, these picturesque treasures can still be found. Wood siding deeply scarred by grain and rot and weathered a beautiful silver gray. Rusted tin roofing sheets all but covering the original wood shakes. Front porch sagging and with a decided lean... Continued on website
