2022 Half Over & Going Fast ...
We’ve got lots of thing going on including a behind the scenes of our www.debenllc.com, DrBens.com & ScaleModelMasterpieces.com (coming on-line soon) websites. Long story short we’re finding that interested folks like seeing what products come with each business!
We shared the image at right on Facebook nine years ago and the number one question: "Really? That siding is not wood--really?" Nope. But it is weathered Labstone castings with nothing but Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains & Solutions. It’s all done using “my Layering Technique" that I have shared in countless Clinics and Articles over the past forty years as well as in the "St. Matthew" kit instructions!
We are hoping to have our Scale Model Masterpieces website up and running in the next few days. It will not have a number of the options that you debenllc.com does have. This is because there is the possibility that separate my purchase the SMM business and not the Doctor Bens. We’ve tried to remove all the bugs from the disappointing import that was done by during the pandemic. So is you find something that doesn’t work (besides out-of-stock messages or Waiting List messages) please email [email protected] and we’ll get to it ASAP.
Lots of folks are traveling over the July Fourth weekend. If you are one have a fun, safe time. Till then; see you in the Hobby Room & Please Be Safe!

"Back Road Buildin's" The Grocery !
"Traveling the back roads years ago, one would happen across a tiny grocery store around every other bend in the road or over the next rise. Even today, these picturesque treasures can still be found. Wood siding deeply scarred by grain and rot and weathered a beautiful silver gray. Rusted tin roofing sheets all but covering the original wood shakes. Front porch sagging and with a decided lean. And as though in staunch defiance to this earthly appeal are a multitude of colorful metal signs plastered everywhere advertising the contents of the interior: colas, soaps, cigarettes, remedies, staples, and clothing." (Introduction from original 1980's advertising in the NG&SL Gazette magazine)
The Grocery in O Scale is the first of this series with a bunch more to follow in both O Scale AND HO Scale. Above and at left is the "finished" Pilot Model images, where I finally found some spare time to finish applying the signs and adding the details that are included in this kit. If anyone is interested, this built-up model like some many other pilot models (still available) is For Sale.
And you will be amazed at all the "Options" of Extra Details, Doctor Ben's Stains & Solutions used for finish & weathering we have added to this kit which means huge $$$ savings for you! CLICK HERE for more information!
Doctor Ben's Industrial Weathering Pigments
This is a much bigger container of weathering product than the little thimble that other folks offer-PROMISE!
They're Not a Powder and They're Not a Chalk, They ARE Industrial!
Using Doctor Ben's Industrial Weathering Pigments®
As a single component of the Doctor Ben's Weathering Products, the Industrial Weathering Pigments are an even more powerful tool in creating a realistic Model. Not a powder, not a chalk, the Doctor Ben's Industrial Weathering Pigments are very easily applied using a soft, but stiff, brush. However, be careful, a little bit goes a very long way!
I've been using the Doctor Ben's Industrial Weathering Pigments to tint Hydrocal© for years. Just a 1/4 teaspoon make a whole lot of difference when tinting white Hydrocal© to an earth tone color. Very cool! These are all great products and as we get more images we'll get them posted here as soon as possible!
The Doctor Ben's Weathering products work best in conjunction with other Doctor Ben's Weathering Products as well as competitors' products--Hey, why not?!
Have you got a result that you would like to share with our visitors? Send your pictures to us!

"Scale Products for Discriminating Modelers"
For Sale: Scale Model Masterpieces formerly Thomas A Yorke Ent, California Freight & Details, & Sequoia Scale Models (Limited Products)
This is a "turn key" operation. Just as quickly as you can get it set up you can be selling products immediately! Questions we have received:
1) Is this Scale Model Masterpieces business profitable? Yes it is. Current product line is just over 300 SKUs.
2) What can be done to make this business be more profitable? We have NOT attended a model convention and even in the past six years which we expect the new owner to return to the various conventions, events and shows which will bring much more exposure than what we currently do over the Internet and word of mouth... Got Questions Please Read On!
"The St. Matthew's School House" Historical Kit!
Scale Model Masterpieces / former Thomas Yorke Ent. HO/1:87
Footprint: 2-1/2" wide x 4-1/2' long. Small in stature; huge in detail
The prototype for this structure was one of the hundreds of photographs done for the Farm Security Administration by Walker Evans. The photo for this particular inspiration was about 1936 somewhere in Alabama. This structure is a complete freestanding structure that may be used alone or combined with other period structures.
This typical backwoods structure portraying a small town, one room school only differs in two ways from the original photograph. The original Thomas A Yorke Ent design had a tar paper roof instead of a shingle roof. Doctor Ben's Precision Rustic Shake Shingles
