Labor Day Sale! And some Other Stuff, too!!
| This time last year we were expecting our first “real” Cold Front . Not this year! ! WOW! And the hurricane season is just half over, too. Crazy weather!|
This time last year the greater Atlanta area was focused on some huge Social Distancing: College Students leaving school for the weekend, Labor Day celebration and the potential for yet another virus flare-up this time it'd Monkeypox. Things are much different than last year with multiple events including College Football Opening Weekend, the Dragon Con, concerts, and loads more things too many to name none of which are Model Railroad related! Lots of precautions are being taken so Happy Labor Day America!
We're making great progress on the O Scale and S Scale corroborators tooling. The current plan is to package both 2" x 6" which will make the vertical dimension 8 scale feet in O scale and just over 10 feet in S scale. Corrugated material will be available in both silver and tan (weathered). I probably avoided corrugated roofing because the hassles of trying to make alumna material look .realistic. This material s awesome!
So enjoy our DeBenLLC 2-day Labor Day Sale Don't forget to use the sale code at checkout or the systems won't give you the discount! See you in the Hobby Room ... I'll be the one wearing a mask with recently washed hands!
|Customer Question: How come your products won't be paintable?|
Thank you for your message/question, Mel
Our apologies for the challenges you are having painting the "tan" resin Cal Freight castings. You don't mention what type of paint it is that you are using, but because these tan Cal Fright are cast using a petroleum based resin (something we do not use), along with mold release, painting these casting require either an automotive primer applied before painting or that you use enamel or lacquer based paints.
In case you missed our Newsletter article about the Cal Freight acquisition & this issue (a few years ago), along with the master patters, molds & assorted products, we received boxes of cast "tan" casting/details. As these tan casting supplies run out we cast the details either with a non-petroleum based resin or the Labstone/Dental Stone Gypsum that we cast 99% of our Scale Model Masterpieces kits & details.
If you feel that this is an issue you are not able to work around, please return the product for a refund. We appreciate your patience & understanding.
. Sincerely, Debbie & Richard Bendever

Coke Ovens Kit Scale Model Masterpieces/Yorke
So, did you read the short Intro comment about the possibility of offering a "half" Coke Oven Kit? We would like to hear your feedback! Yes/No
Some Coke Oven Lore & History: In 1904 the Powhattan Coal and Coke Co. opened a new mine at Sykesville. One year later, the fledgling company sold out to a group of New York investors who changed the name to the Cascade Coal and Coke Co. At that time, under the direction of C.C. Gadd, 100 coke ovens were built. Two years later, a local paper noted that "they are working regularly at the Cascade mines. A good grade of coke is being make there, and business is brisk." The prototype for this kit was built in 1903 at the Cascade Coke Ovens, Cascade, Preston County, WV, now abandoned.
The ovens were charged from the top through a charging hole. The coal was leveled by raking by a man outside the oven. The doorway was temporarily plugged with brick. A small space was left open at the top for air. Forty eight hours later, the coal was turned to coke. Normal operations would see half of the battery of ovens being fired while the other was being unloaded of coke and reloaded with coal. A new industry ... Continued Here

The re-introduction of the Thomas A Yorke Ent products (2009) has been a long and arduous process. Due to business matters that did not come to fruition, we have had to literally repurchase nearly every single Thomas Yorke kit; inventory the contents; verify the contents count and then log a Materials List for each and every single Yorke kit—and there are hundreds including variations never advertised!
