Here Comes Much Colder Weather!

Now that The Boys of Summer (MLB) finalized their season last night, here comes a Nor-Easter Blast to get us all ready for the fast coming Thanksgiving Holiday which means that all the Black Friday & Cyber Monday events are just around the corner. Already, a lot of Big Box  stores have been running commercials & advertising for products they have in stock and are hoping to get them in stock just as soon as they can unload those ships. We'll see how well that goes... fingers crossed..
UPS has announces a 5.9% Rate increase starting up very soon. The UPS increase is quickly following the USPS from back in October and most likely FedEx will be next. We have a Australian customer wanting to place an order. Unfortunately, both AU and New Zealand also happen to be on the "Restricted Ship-To Countries" list. The complete list is on the USPS website.
You may have seen this diorama at right before. This is s Contest model that I built back in the 1980s,  This is the "J.W. Wenrich Manufactory" diorama (SEE Here) that I entered in the Atlanta 1995 NMRA Model Contest. I posted an image of this diorama in Facebook stating that constructing & weathering a plastic model was not "Rocket Science" My post surprise a number of folks at this model is simply a 'detailed' plastic (Pola) kit. All of the details on the ground, dock, and roof (except for the figures) are all "Hot Glue".  See more about casting with Hot Glue below and originally published article in the NG&SL Gazette Nov/Dec 1996.
Hopefully we'll see you in the Hobby Room wearing your mask & freshly washed hands, too!

Weathering Stain Set #1 & How-To Booklet #2 & #5535 Junk Pile
Doctor Ben's Scale Consortium #DBZ1077

Stains included in this Set: #1097-Aged Driftwood, #1081-Realistic Oak, #1082-Natural Pine, #1083-Hardwood Maple, #1084-Nautical Teak, #1089-Rustic Barn Red, #1087-Knotty Walnut, & #1090 Natural Basswood plus Booklet #2 & #5535 Junk Pile
This product is designed to be applied as a stain and should not affect integrity of the material to which it is applied. A good rule of thumb that we feel best describes the coverage of the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains is that one coat will provide a light coverage; two-three coats will provide a medium coverage and four or more coats with build up, the more porous the surface, the more difficult it is to remove, so test a small less noticeable area before the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stain is applied to the entire model/project. Although this product can be semi-permanent, Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol may be used to remove at varying degrees. Read about all the great uses in our How To #2 "The ABCs of Staining Models" booklet and in our website Blog. You will not be disappointed.

Doctor Ben's How-To #4: "Hot Glue Casting" Booklet by Richard Bendever!   A number of years ago I was browsing through my old Gazette magazines and I picked up the January/February 1982 issue where I found an interesting article. In this long-out-of print magazine, I found an article about casting detail parts. In that article Terry Metcalfe described how he cast parts by melting beads of a thermoplastic called “Makit and Bakit” beads in RTV molds using an ordinary kitchen oven. I decided that this process was definitely NOT going to work for me.
As a former Mold Maker/Tool & Die maker, I am quite familiar with the plastic injection process...  Read More ...
