Winter is Coming! Yikes!

Yep! That's right and here in North-Central Georgia (USA) we're still waiting for the Fall leaves to change.! At the moment we a planning to stay home this Thanksgiving Holiday which means that all the Black Friday & Cyber Monday purchase will be mailed much sooner than if we were 800 miles away. We have a couple of family member who have moved closer to us as well as doing all the fixings for a TG Day meal. We're planning on being quite busy!
All that said, we're buckling down for a cold front tonight and a possible Freeze Warning next week. Our thought & prayers go out to all our friends, customers and family in California having to deal with all the fires causing all the property loss & loss of life. Please keep us posted that you're OK when you have time.
At right is my "J.W. Wenrich Manufactory" diorama from the 1995 NMRA Model Contest. I posted an image of this diorama in Facebook stating that constructing & weathering a plastic model was not "Rocket Science" My post surprise a number of folks at this model is a detailed plastic kit. All of the details on the ground, dock, and roof (except for the figures) are all "Hot Glue".  See more about casting with Hot Glue below. Happy Holidays & hopefully we'll see you in the Hobby Room!

Weathering Stain Set #1 & How-To Booklet #2 & #5535 Junk Pile
Doctor Ben's Scale Consortium #DBZ1077

Stains included in this Set: #1097-Aged Driftwood, #1081-Realistic Oak, #1082-Natural Pine, #1083-Hardwood Maple, #1084-Nautical Teak, #1089-Rustic Barn Red, #1087-Knotty Walnut, & #1090 Natural Basswood plus Booklet #2 & #5535 Junk Pile
This product is designed to be applied as a stain and should not affect integrity of the material to which it is applied. A good rule of thumb that we feel best describes the coverage of the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stains is that one coat will provide a light coverage; two-three coats will provide a medium coverage and four or more coats with build up, the more porous the surface, the more difficult it is to remove, so test a small less noticeable area before the Doctor Ben's Weathering Stain is applied to the entire model/project. Although this product can be semi-permanent, Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol may be used to remove at varying degrees. Read about all the great uses in our How To #2 "The ABCs of Staining Models" booklet and in our website Blog. You will not be disappointed.

Brand New! Logging Camp Portable Bunk House Kit Set

Scale Model Masterpieces / Thomas A Yorke Ent. #SMM3123
HO Foot Prints: 3" x 6" & 1-1/2" x 3" (2 structures)

Not long ago we told you that we would make this kit once again available. It seems that many customers wanted to have more than just two Logging Bunk Houses for their Logging Camp. So we have bumped up the re-introduction of this kit--actually two kits since there are two Bunk Houses in this kit.

Logging Camp Background: Logging Camps were established at the end of the railway line to house the workers because the workers had no way of getting to and from work except by train. There were no roads out into the woods – the train provided the sole means of access. The camps were moved when the timber in the immediate vicinity of the camp was all cut. Along the Ten Mile Branch of the Union Lumber Company's (ULC) railroad, there were 42 camps ... Continued in the Instruction Booklet.

Doctor Ben's How-To #4: "Hot Glue Casting" Booklet by Richard Bendever!   A number of years ago I was browsing through my old Gazette magazines and I picked up the January/February 1982 issue where I found an interesting article. In this long-out-of print magazine, I found an article about casting detail parts. In that article Terry Metcalfe described how he cast parts by melting beads of a thermoplastic called “Makit and Bakit” beads in RTV molds using an ordinary kitchen oven. I decided that this process was definitely NOT going to work for me.
As a former Mold Maker/Tool & Die maker, I am quite familiar with the plastic injection process...  Read More ...
