12 Days Until Fall Arrives!

There's lots of crazy weather going on here in the United States. Just a week or so Hurricane Ida passed just to the north of us and now Tropical Depression Mindy is south of us headed for the Atlantic Ocean. And our weather is supposed to have early morning starts in the low sixties. Can Fall be just 12 days away?.
As I’ve mentioned in the past few Newsletters, we have a couple really excited about purchasing our Scale Model Masterpieces) Business. The GoFundMe process seems to be a bit slow but they do have some potential investors interested. Read more about it farther in this Newsletter..
Once again this is a reminder that when you call our 770/666-8100 number, the MagicJack system will instruct you to PRESS a number on your phone in order for your call to go through. This is a Anti-Robo Call feature that we have had to enable because the Number Block is not blocking some Robo Callers. Our apologies for the hassle!
So, the first day of Fall is now just days away and we are more than ready for cooler temperatures. Above is right our Postal Commemorative Society complete Set of 4 framed Railroad Prints "set" of by Jim Deneen... We’re still looking to find a new home for this extraordinary set of framed prints. I don't remember exactly when I purchased this set either in the late 1990s or early 2000. You would be surprised how many folks bought only a couple of the four individual prints and now paying a lot more than what we're asking.
Debbie and I will always remember where we were and what we were doing twenty years ago tomorrow September 11, 2001. Although we will be working tomorrow, we will be remembering the 2,900-plus lives lost; the bravery of the first responders; the thousands lives injured and/or lost bringing the perpetrators to justice; and the thousands of individuals who became sickened and lost in the rubble rescue efforts. Please be safe and wear a face mask when around folks and wash your hand and we'll see you in the Hobby Room....

Doctor Ben's How-To #4: "Hot Glue Casting" Booklet by Richard Bendever!   A number of years ago I was browsing through my old Gazette magazines and I picked up the January/February 1982 issue where I found an interesting article. In this long-out-of print magazine, I found an article about casting detail parts. In that article Terry Metcalfe described how he cast parts by melting beads of a thermoplastic called “Makit and Bakit” beads in RTV molds using an ordinary kitchen oven. I decided that this process was definitely NOT going to work for me.
As a former Mold Maker/Tool & Die maker, I am quite familiar with the plastic injection process...  Read More ...

Granite Ballast Grey Weathering Solution #1056-4 oz. creates that light, dusty grey that is so difficult to achieve with opaque products. Additionally, this Weathering Solution reveals a 3-D effect for more realism rather than just a flat color wash. The Granite Ballast Grey Weathering Solution is also great for that silvery, grey driftwood color that is so hard to replicate in nature.

Grimy Dusty Buff Weathering Solution #1057 creates that light, dusty buff (tan) from road travel and wind that is so difficult to achieve with opaque products. Additionally, this Weathering Solution reveals a 3-D effect for more realism rather than just a flat color wash. The Grimy Dusty Buff Weathering Solution is great for use on vehicles, details and toning down that *new* look of fresh paint.

Huck’s White Wash Weathering Solution #1058 is just what it says. How To #1 BookletEverything from lime stains on a locomotive, to faded white washed wood and even the bright white lettering on a sign or on the side of a boxcar; the results are remarkable! Got more ideas for uses? Let us know & we try them out.

Pond  Scum Weathering Solution #1059 looks just like to sounds. Picture a pond or small lake out in the country or an isolated inlet where there’s not much activity. You look up against the shore and you see this green crud; that’s Pond Scum. But don’t stop there. Look on the shady north side of many structures and you will see this green film of mold and mildew; that too is Pond Scum.  And only Doctor Ben’s has it! Click Here to find more about this product!

This is a "turn key" operation. Just as quickly as you can get it set up you can be selling products immediately! Questions we have received:

  1) Is this Scale Model Masterpieces business profitable? Yes it is. Current product line is just over 300 SKUs.

  2) What can be done to make this business be more profitable? We have NOT attended a model convention and even in the past six years which we expect the new owner to return to the various conventions, events and shows which will bring much more exposure than what we currently do over the Internet and word of mouth...
